I am an expert in IT, I have been involved in the architecture and deployment of large complex web infrastructure for 15 years. I am proficient in Linux, Solaris, Windows, I can write code in perl, java, ruby, and javascript. I was checkpoint firewall certified, which took days of training. Despite all my expertise I could not figure out how to enable remote assistance between two laptops sitting side by side. The solution? Uninstall McAfee!

This thing is like a virus itself. First i tried to disable the firewall, it appeared to do nothing. Then I tried to register the "subscription" which alolowed me to disable the firewall. When I did remote assistant couldn't seem to use the network. Then I went into the windows control panel to try to enable and configure the built in and easy to use windows firewall, but the option to do so was removed. Amazon had a good deal on this product - purchased under duress. I was forced to uninstall Norton despite having 6 more months of subscription - it was causing BSODs due to their EFA Database hidden under the System Volume folder of the boot drive becoming "corrupted". More than 10 years ago I was a died in the wool McAfee user and had been using Norton for those 10 years until now (auto-sig updating was not in vogue yet). I have to admit that Norton has much better scanning capabilities (option to not scan the internals of CAB/ZIP files, etc.) but I am disappointed over the fact that a full scan has yet to finish on my 60GB of data after six hours with McAfee. Does it do the job for real-time? I believe so. Who has the better product? Probably Norton and especially with their scanning algorithm (it took less than 2 hours on my system). But Amazon did have the best price and fast delivery with this product.
